w21: sunday review
eleven successful tomato seedlings
weather has switched back from suspiciously consistently hot to unpredictable, we're all so pleased.
things i intended to do and did:
- widened the north border and planted out the runner bean seedlings, and set up the start of a support structure for them;
- potted out eleven successful tomato seedlings from the tray into greenhouse pots, drenching each pot in the rain barrel;
- strimmed off the far garden and lopped the lower branches off four volunteer trees to improve airflow around the ground;
- made a new lock screen / screensaver for my kobo that says 'would you feel better if you were in the garden?' for those times when existence itself feels like standing in front of the fridge hoping to want something.
- posted https://hooksforeverything.ghost.io/four-stories-not-about-fruit-apple/
- posted https://hooksforeverything.ghost.io/three-stories-not-about-birds-crane-2052/
- journalled about and processed 'being useful' and 'being available' and 'being helpful' and how much of a problem it is, really, that I respect any given person a little less each time I help them.
things i intended to do but did not:
- to stop looking at reddit (Appblock works but only if I put it in Strict Mode);
- to stay off the silly little draggy squares games (another reinstall-fixate-uninstall loop, but the loops are getting shorter I feel?);
other items:
- noticed a volunteer oak in the lawn, only 15cm high but imagine! me with an oak! thanks, mystery donor squirrel!
- Ophelia may have finally figured out that Priscilla holding a toy near her and growling 'gosh, sure would be annoying if someone took this toy off me and ran away!' actually means she's invited to play. Two years she's been believing it literally.
- Annoyed that Pocket is closing. I wasn't using it every day but it was the easiest way to chuck long articles onto the Kobo. I had meant to figure out rss-to-epub on Calibre anyway, to be fair. Even though it means physically connecting the kobo to my laptop with a wire like your ancestors had to.
- showed the neighbour cat a comb, offered to comb her tufty shoulder, nearly lost my arm. showed her the comb again the next day, offered to comb her on the top of her head, was rewarded by purring and biscuits.
- found out that the technical word for what the neighbour cat thinks my greenhouse is is dacha.
- supervised introductions between Priscilla and neighbour cat (much sniffing and appeasement) and Ophelia and neighbour cat (undiplomatic language from both). to be continued.
- we ran out of instant coffee, very very strange, we never do that, had to go to the Back Of The Shelf and make cold brew, which has obviously messed up our dosage.
intent for w22:
- take no damage;
- cut and shred more hedge;
- dewild the far garden (yes, this is a project not an action, but there are so many interlocking volunteer plants that it's just a matter of heading up there and using the next correct tool);
- leave Appblock in strict mode, let it work.
