but that was okay, because i had an assignment to finish anyway

if i had any sense at all, this would have been the last youtube video i ever watched:

I have got rid of so many of the places i check & the places that can belt-feed me news and updates and takes. On Fridays at 17:00 the phone gets turned off and put in the knife drawer, which started as a joke but is actually magic. So I'm like behaviourally shifting back to the laptop - 'going to sit at the internet'. & of course I have the ereader, which does contain news stories, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't dance at me.

It was not the last video i watched, though, it was followed by a whole bunch of notebook girlies (gender neutral term) and the episodes of Dimension 20 Fantasy High that you don't need a dropout subscription to watch - I might have a few months of it over winter, but not yet.

Books: I finished A Beginner's Guide To Breaking And Entering, which was a fun cascade of consequences in that madcap heist way that I like. I read last week's LRB - enjoyed the 'Pretty Garrotte' article about Dorothy Parker. Then the next library book was Frank Dikötter's The Cultural Revolution, on which i stalled hard. but that was okay because I had an assignment to finish anyway.

I swear I used to know the alt+ shortcuts for umlaut letters. Where did that information go? Got replaced with facts about pop singers I don't even like, probably.

Music: I've abdicated responsibility for the next track and have been listening to playlists called things like 'lacuna' & 'gazing in the garden' & 'pov you're a chinese scholar studying for the imperial examination'.
