w11: friday craft roundup

It's not been a particularly crafty week. Not a bad week! just doing other things.

There is a grey and teal double crochet Flat Thing in progress at the back of my desk - it might become a scarf, or a shawl, or a bedspread, depending on when I stop. It might progress through being an active scarf, then an active shawl, then a bedspread! It's literally there to Be An Option right now - when I have that 'I have to do something off a screen!' feeling.

the ridge in the middle is the oldest part, and I crochet onto the outsides round and round. coffee ring is deliberately included, for scale.

I pulled the 4mm hook and one of my grey yarn balls out of the Fibre Crafts box a few weeks ago and started doing chainless foundation row because my hands remembered it and I wasn't in the mood to pick a pattern. It got to about 70cm long and I turned the corner and double-crocheted back along, so now it's a Very Long spiral oblong and the earliest stitches are in the centre, do you see?

It's my favoured method of crocheting Flat Things - this way you don't have an end that's The Early Work and an end that's The More Recent Work, it just gets bigger and newer on all its outsides. Probably less relevant to people with consistent stitch tension and consistent yarn quality, but relevant to me.

Chainless foundation row: described at Maggie's Crochet Blog and a pleasant video from TL Yarn Crafts. I forget where I learned from, it wasn't either of these, but methods are methods.

I'm 'behind' on collage / scrapbooking, if that's a thing. My zipped folder of cut-out-bits from magazines and catalogues and calendars is having difficulty closing. I haven't had a clear enough desk, and every time I start clearing my desk I find that I've been using my desk as the 'Think About This Later' category and then I have to Think About Things.

Crafts are meant to help with that. It'll happen again, I know, we've had this cycle before.

Additional benefit TO ME of this post: I pulled out the actual camera rather than using my phone, because I know the camera doesn't know its location. This is a good habit - I like the actual camera.
