w18: sunday review

hard to pick out which item of global relevance to feature. the cucumber seedlings are doing well.

hard to pick out which item of global relevance to feature. the cucumber seedlings are doing well. i didn't review in w16 or w17, so this is three weeks of accomplishments. brace yourselves.

things i intended to do and did:

  • tidied and cleaned the conservatory, turning it from 'think about this later' central dumping ground to an actual work space with potting bench and a clear desk;
  • brushed ophelia against her will, discovered more matting than we had realised, gave her her summer haircut early, gave her pity peanut butter;
  • brushed priscilla with rather less drama because of straight hair privilege, gave her a summer trim too, gave her participation peanut butter;
  • got a garden shredder and happily turned three wheelbarrowfuls of branches into woodchips for mulching the south border, only 198 more wheelbarrowfuls to go;
  • took plant photos with the good camera: look!
a completely fluked decent focus photo of several dandelion clocks
  • took nails out of about two thirds of the reclaimed boards before i started getting clumsy (I have learned to stop doing rusty-metal-related tasks after the first mistake, and switch to something else for the rest of the day);
  • posted brain-dump about finances & narrative titled early onset plot holes;
  • posted one of my pre-pandemic short stories four stories not about fruit: lime;
  • posted the april reading roundup;
  • actually been off youtube completely on my phone, only putting lofi girl on the playstation when the primary playstation user is washing up;

things i intended to do but did not:

  • stop looking at reddit (i even deleted my account, this isn't even custom reddit, this is straight up typing in the subreddit names i remember like some sort of grub);
  • notes on the arctic for my course (this one is really bad, there's an assignment due in four days and i've only outlined it);

things i enjoyed:

  • the dogs choosing different perfect lounging places around the house as the sun moves round.
  • making cardboard box storage all matchy matchy with sticky-backed plastic (has been remarketed as 'peel and stick wallpaper' at some point).
  • watching the stock lines wiggle. (i'm up 6.7% in a month.) look at the state of it.
  • the neighbour cat's awe and delight at a very small amount of kitten food. (an elderly friend advised me that if anyone with a garden ought to keep kitten food in stock for emergencies. she didn't specify which emergencies, but i think 'neighbour cat is pretty' counts.)

intent for w19:

  • seriously find some way of blocking reddit. the time locks aren't working. some sort of dns level sledgehammer??
  • take more plant photos with the good camera;
